Mandragora Tee Shirt with HTV

This shirt was made for Ant Bee in the Madam Malkin's HP Wearables for All Occasions Swap.  I bought the SVG design on Etsy, and cut it from a sage green glitter HTV.  I'm going to be honest, this one was really hard to let go.  I think I'm going to have to make a second one for myself.  :)

Bee Kind Tote

My wonderful Mother in Law hosted the annual family reunion while I was going to be at a jewelry making retreat.  Each year they hold a raffle, the proceeds of which go to funding the next reunion.  Since I knew I would be busy right before the event, but still wanted to contribute, I made up a few gift baskets for her of various local treats. 

One of the baskets was a farmer's market theme, which contained some granola, honey, olive oil, lavender lotion, a soy candle, soap, wool dryer balls, and a set of my crocheted dishcloths.  I lined the basket with tea towels from Target's dollar section, one of which had little bees on it, and another that said 'the Farmers Market is my happy place!'.  But no matter how I arranged all the bits and bobs in the basket, there was an annoying little gap in the back.  I decided I could fill it with a tote bag, for the recipient to use at their own market, or to take to the grocery store.  The bag was a pre-made canvas one already in my stash.  The cut files came from the Silhouette store online. And I was going to use some leftover gold glitter htv, until I found a sheet of flocked yellow vinyl that came with my Silhouette Cameo.  I was so excited to get to use it up!

Craftster Zippered Pouch Favors for Asheville Adventure

sheepBlue & I made favors for everyone who attended the Asheville Adventure Meetup.  The black canvas zippered pouches were purchased on Amazon, then I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the skull with scissors logo from silver glitter htv, and everyone's usernames from either teal or magenta htv. 

Each was filled with the custom swag we had printed up, including stickers, buttons, temporary tattoos, and pencils, along with gum, lip balm & Sharpies.  The pencils were a funny story.  I tried to order 'DIY-Do It Your Own Damn Self' on the black, 'Crafty Bitch' on the pink, and 'I run with scissors' on the silver.  Oriental Trading Company refused to print the words 'damn' or 'bitch', but said 'I run with scissors' was okay.  I switched the black pencils to read 'Asheville or Bust 2019', and the pink pencils to say 'Crafty like a fox'.  When the box arrived those ones were fine, but the silver pencils had a label that read 'I run with scissors', but the pencils themselves were covered in Bible quotes!  I'd love to see the look on the face of the church lady who ordered her bible verse, when she opened my pencils!  Thankfully they reprinted and sent the new ones right out. 

The stickers were printed from VistaPrint, and the buttons were done by an Etsy seller I've worked with in the past who is fast and pretty dang affordable.

sheepBlue did the awesome temporary tattoos, but sadly I didn't get a picture of one, or even get one of the tattoos themselves.  My pouch had been taken out of the box for the group to save space, and somehow I never grabbed one.  sheep, if you have a pic, could you post it below?

I didn't want the gentlemen who were joining us to feel left out, so they got favors too.  Reusable water bottles filled with a snack sized sleeve of pistachios, a small flashlight, a matching carabiner, a bundle of paracord, a tube of mint lip balm, a Sharpie, and one of the Asheville or Bust pencils.

Be the Sparkle Unicorn You Want to See in the World

   

I believe it was either Ghandi or Princess Rainicorn who said, “Be the Sparkle Unicorn you want to see in the world.”

These are a few more projects created for Craftster's April Fool's Day celebrations.  The image and text were cut from rainbow holographic heat transfer vinyl that I found on Amazon.  The unicorn design is from the Silhouette store, but I added some extra butterflies, clovers, and stars into the grass area, because I was afraid it would be too big of a solid chunk of HTV. 

There was plenty more htv leftover, so I made some tees for my nieces, Ari & Mia.  Ari adores unicorns, so she got that one, while Mia is the Queen of Cupcakes.  I cant wait to mail these off to them, along with some of the Unicorn & Mermaid Cookie Mixes.

We Can't All Be Princesses Tote

This was a nice quick project made for itsmereba in the Fairy Tale Swap on Craftster.  I found the sentiment repeated on one of her Pinterest boards several times, and decided she needed it on a tote.  The design was cut on my Silhouette Cameo from hot pink, lavender, and gold glitter heat transfer vinyl. 

I worried some other wannabe princess might try to walk off with it when Reba was busy with important matters of her realm, so I added a monogram on the back for her.  The cut files are both from the Silhouette Store online.

Harry Potter Baby Quilts, Onesies & Hats

As I mentioned yesterday, my friend Abbeeroad has recently welcomed twins into her family, and I had a wonderful time crafting for them.  Since I was making two of everything, I admit that I took a bit of a shortcut on the quilts.  They aren't traditionally pieced quilts, but rather whole cloth printed to look like it has been pieced.  The fabrics are literally called "Potter Cheater Quilt", and came from kritterstitches on Spoonflower.  They feature the Deathly Hallows symbol, tiny cauldrons, brooms, owls, Sorting hats, and lots more.  She has it in a few colorways, but seems to have since removed the coral & yellow print from her shop. 

The backings and binding came from a local quilt shop called Quilting Squares, where the ladies were quite excited to help me pick some matches.  This is the first, in shades of purple and turquoise.  I made onesies and hats to match, so each little lady got her own set. 

 

My neighbor has a small business doing embroidered baby clothes on her embroidery machine, and she took on the task of making me custom quilt labels to match each quilt.  Of course, it's just making me want a new embroidery machine all the more...

And the second one in shades of coral, yellow, and turquoise.

Meanwhile, I wanted to make another set of onesies to go with them.  I used the classic Potter font, and set up the text in the Silhouette software, then cut them from glitter heat transfer vinyl.  I've played with several types of htv, and the glitter seems to adhere the best, and wear well over repeated washings and dryings.  The hats were each made by stash-busting yarn scraps.  I can't remember the pattern I used, or I'd link it. They're quite chunky, with the body of each being made of 2 strands of yarn held together, with a contrasting band of Lion Brand Homespun.

All You Need is Love Onesies

I like making things for friends.  I like making things for babies.  And I really like making things for the babies of good friends.  These were made for the new babies of my friend Abbeeroad on Craftster, who just welcomed twin girls into the world.  I wanted to do something that would coordinate, but not depend on the other to be wearing the matching outfit.  So if one little lady spits up all over hers, her sister still looks stylin' in hers.  I found a retro font in my library, and set up the text in the Silhouette software, then cut them from glitter heat transfer vinyl. 

*Update 1/20/18: The girls wore these to the anniversary of the Women's March in NYC!  While they were bundled up against the cold, I love that their mom and I both know they were there. 

Smash the Patriarchy & Frida Kahlo Tea

While crafting for the Feminism & Diversity Swap recently, I chatted with my partner kittykill, and she lamented we live far apart, or else we'd each love to have the other over for tea and crafting.  It inspired me to create a tote for her.  I purchased the frame image from the Silhouette Design Store, then altered the size & shape of it, before adding in the text with a typewriter font.  It was cut out of black glitter htv on my Silhouette.  I was going for the feel of captions to old silent films.  Very happy with how it came out. 

kittykill also mentioned that Frida Kahlo was one of her feminist icons so I knew I had to create something inspired by Frida for her.  I started with a candy pink tee from Target, and did some google image searching to find a simple stencil or icon of Frida, and added a heart around it in my Silhouette Design Studio software.  Once I was finished it felt like it needed a little extra something....  So I added a rose on the back of the neckline.  All the images were cut out of black glitter htv.  As I've been working with my Silhouette, I think I've come to like working with the glitter htv best of all as it seems to stick the best and cut & weed well.

 

Harry Potter LOVE Tees with Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl

I recently had the most amazing opportunity to meetup with 3 of my favorite Craftsters, down at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  Since I was going to be meeting and hanging out with some pretty amazing crafters, I knew I had to bring handmade gifts to share with them.  I purchased an svg file on Etsy that said LOVE, with the L & O being above the V & E to form a square image.  After a minor setback in which I lost my head and accidentally cut out the transfers backwards, I decided to go back and play with the image in Photoshop to make it one word written out straight across instead of the square placement, mostly to make the image work with the amount of silver glitter htv I had left.  I actually like my re-arranged version more, because it's clearer to read.  I apologize for this picture being a bit dimly lit.  We were in a Steampunk Chocolate Emporium, and it was the only pic I got of all of us in our matching shirts.

HTV Shirts for Wizarding World

Next week I'm heading off to Wizarding World of Harry Potter with the amazing Abbeeroad, the fantastic FiberAlchemist, and the ever lovely edelC.  Clearly, this means that I need fun new clothes to wear on my adventure.  So this is my Wizengamot shirt.  The image was from a google image search, imported into Silhouette Design Studio.  It came out even better than I imagined it could!

Meanwhile I picked up the most adorable pair of pj pants from Torrid, that have tiny owls on them.  They were several inches too long, so I went ahead an hemmed them.  Afterwards I decided that I clearly I needed to make a top to match!  I made a Hogwarts Letter tee, with silver glitter htv, and deep red flocked htv.  Getting the flocked material and the glitter vinyl to work together was a minor trick.  I cut the envelope from silver glitter htv, and the seal from dark red flocked htv.  Then I cut a space in the backing plastic so I could nestle the seal into the letter, and iron them both at the same time. The flocked material seems to need longer with the iron, but all seemed to work out with a little extra effort.  I'm pretty excited with how adorable it is!
